The Kenton Fire Department issued a reminder about the importance of space heater safety to prevent fires in the home.

Making sure you have the right type of heater is just as crucial.

Some heaters are not meant to be used indoors and could potentially cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

Local Kenton Firefighters 563 said you should not plug space heaters into extension cords and do not fill kerosene heaters while in use.

You should also keep flammable objects at least 3 feet away from any heat source.

Make sure all heaters are clean, dust-free and have tip-over protection.
