A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for Hardin and surrounding counties, with dangerously cold conditions expected to worsen overnight. An Extreme Cold Warning will then take effect from 6 p.m. this evening through noon Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind chills during the advisory period could drop as low as 15 below zero, while the Extreme Cold Warning may bring wind chills of 25 below zero.

Officials warn that exposure to these temperatures can result in frostbite in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors and take precautions if travel or outdoor activity is unavoidable.

Residents are advised to dress in multiple layers, including hats, face masks, and gloves. Pet owners should bring animals indoors whenever possible and ensure that outdoor pets have adequate shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
