The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to use extreme caution as prolonged rainfall has caused high water across multiple roadways throughout the county.

According to a social media post issued this morning (05/23/26), flooding is currently most severe in southeast Hardin County, but officials expect conditions to worsen and spread to additional areas across the county as rainfall continues.

Motorists are strongly urged not to drive through flooded roadways.

“Turn Around! Don’t Drown!” the sheriff’s office stated, emphasizing that even shallow moving water can be dangerous and potentially deadly.

Highway crews are working to place warning signs in flooded areas when possible, though officials caution drivers to avoid water-covered roads regardless of whether barricades or warning signs are present.

Residents are also encouraged to report high water emergencies by calling 9-1-1.

Drivers traveling across Hardin County and surrounding areas are advised to slow down, remain alert for changing road conditions, and seek alternate routes when necessary.
