
Robert D. Rice, age 77, of Dunkirk, Ohio, passed away on May 23, 2026 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on March 27, 1949, in Lynch Kentucky to the late Verbena and Clarence “Red” Rice.
Robert is survived by the love of his life, Carol Rice; his daughters, Rachelle Rice of Dunkirk, Shalyn (Mathew) Chester of Findlay, Alicia Rice of Findlay, Leanna Rice of Kenton, Dawn Ream of Dunkirk, and Jalynn Helton of Kenton; and six grandchildren, Leah Alberding, Schylee McCleese, Lucas Downing, Jordan Chester, Zayne DeLong, and Simon Chester. And several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Copper, who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Earl Rice and Eddie Bryant his sisters Anna “Mae” Nickles and Margaret “Mugs” Cahill; and his son, Brandon Rice.
He was a proud 1967 graduate of Hardin Northern High School in Dola Ohio.
Robert followed in his fathers footsteps and drove semi for many years, and even after retirement he continued to drive for ESS Delivery Services in Findlay Ohio. He also worked at Glacier Daido Metals in Bellefontaine for 13 years, where he proudly served as President of the UAW. He dedicated many years of service as a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Dunkirk.
Robert had a deep love for the outdoors. He had a love for guns and was an avid bow hunter, who won many trophies for his archery skills. He had a green thumb and found great joy in gardening. Those who knew Robert would say he was a great story teller, captivating his audience with his cliff hangers and good jokes. He was a jack of all trades and could always find a redneck way to make a project work.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, and his passion for the things he loved.
It was his wishes to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held July 18th, 2026 at Legacy 68 in Dunkirk 2821 St Rt 68 from 12 to 4.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rachelle Rice at the First Citizens Nation Bank in Dunkirk for final expenses.
