Funeral services for Freda Jean Hipsher, 91, of Kenton, will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 01, 2026, at the Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor Anita Van Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery. Friends and family may visit two hours prior to the services at the funeral home.
Freda Jean was born on February 16, 1935, to the late Della May Kemmere and Fred Poling. On December 29, 1953, Freda Jean and Jerry C. Hipsher were united in marriage in Decatur, Indiana.
She is survived by her children: Audrey Lynn Hipsher, Bryan E. Hipsher, Terrissa K. Howell, Yolanda S. Bolen, and Kim R. (Bo) Taylor. Also surviving are her sisters, Sharon (Junior) Taylor and Barbara (Bill) Magann; her brothers, Rod (Jackie) Kemmere, Dan (Peggy) Kemmere, and Roger (Cathy) Kemmere; as well as 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jerry C. Hipsher, and her granddaughter, Amber Rachelle Bolen.
Freda worked at the Kenton Woolworths candy counter as a teenager, where she met Jerry after his return from military duty. She was later employed at North Electric Company throughout the 1970s, and she and Jerry owned and operated Jerry’s Bait and Tackle Shop.
Freda deeply loved her family, friends, and many “furry friends,” never turning away a stray animal. She enjoyed annual fishing trips to Florida and car rides through France Lake and Salisbury Park (forever a family favorite) while singing along to country favorites like Little Jimmy Dickens and Merle Haggard. She also enjoyed playing Rummy 500 with Karla Harris, winning most games. She loved the great outdoors, always raking, sweeping, picking up branches and making the world more beautiful.
Memorial donations in Freda’s honor may be made to Warriors for Dogs (W.F.D.), 8400 TR. 179, Kenton, Ohio 43326.
