The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam.

The scammer claims to be a member of the sheriff’s office and demands money to avoid going to jail.

Reasons they give for calling include, missing jury duty, failing to report for federal summons, and they ask you to pay to have a warrant removed.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office will never call and ask for money over the phone.

Use caution when answering the phone, and do not provide payments or personal information over the phone.
