Obituary for Martha E Miller

Martha E. (Betty) Miller, 101, of Findlay and formerly of Forest and Arlington, passed away on Sept. 28, 2026 at Brookdale Senior Living Facility, Findlay, Ohio. Betty was born on August 17, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio to Robert R. and Rheva A. (Johnson) Thompson. When her father died unexpectedly in 1937, her mother moved the family to Forest to be near family.

Betty graduated from Forest High School in 1943 and was the last surviving member of her class. She was extremely proud that her high school graduation was the cover story in the June 14, 1943 issue of LIFE magazine. On March 17, 1945, she married the love of her life, Raymond N. Miller. The couple moved to Chicago, Illinois until Raymond was discharged from the US Navy. Upon their return to Forest, they started a dairy farming operation and family.

They had two children, James N. Miller (Deborah) of Findlay and Marilyn S. Brown (Richard) of Port Clinton. Betty had five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents Robert and Rheva, and a brother Robert.

During her younger years she was active in the Forest United Methodist Church, the Rebecca Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid genealogist and spent many days traveling to various courthouses and cemeteries to research her family history.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Fri. Oct. 2, 2026 at the Clark-Shields Funeral Home in Forest, Ohio. Betty’s family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

The Reverend Christoper Thacker will officiate; burial will follow in Hueston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Forest United Methodist Church or the Forest-Jackson Library in care of Clark Shields Funeral Home 301 S. Patterson St Forest, OH 45843.
