COLUMBUS, OHIO, Oct. 30, 2026 — Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1 and the American Red Cross, Central & Southern Ohio Region encourages everyone to TEST their smoke alarms as they TURN their clocks back to make sure the devices are working.
The Red Cross also offers some fire safety DO’S AND DON’TS to help keep everyone better prepared in case a fire starts in their home.
DO
DON’T
“The end of daylight saving time is a good opportunity to test every smoke alarm in your home as you turn your clocks back,” said Ken Robinson, regional disaster officer for the Central & Southern Ohio Region. “Every second counts when there’s a home fire. The sooner an alarm alerts you to a fire, the sooner you can get to a safer place. When daylight saving time ends this weekend, test your smoke alarms and help prevent a tragedy in your home.”
