Ella Kay (Barclay) Friedel, age 82, of Kenton, OH went home peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Vancrest of Ada. Ella was born in Kenton, Ohio on July 4, 1938 to the late Kenneth and Hannah (Mullins) Barclay. On February 14, 1987 she married Eugene E. Friedel and he went on to heaven July 26, 2009.

Ella is survived by her children, Fred (Darla) Reinemeyer of Dublin, OH; Rita Thatcher of Lakeview, OH; Mary Wormley of Kenton, OH; grandchildren, Renee (Justin) Metzger of Huntsville, OH, Eric (Erica) Thatcher of Radford, VA, Sarah Thatcher of Lakeview, OH, Troy Reinemeyer (Samantha Koeninger) of Hamilton, OH, Kelly (Beaux) Wallace of Hilliard, OH, Ashley (Scot) Gammon of Kenton, OH, Kristen Wormley of Columbus, OH, Josh Wormley (Haley Atwood) of Kenton, OH; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Haley and Laura Metzger, Braden, Lillian, and Brooke Thatcher and Marlee, Kyndal, Carter, Harper, and Parker Gammon; and many cousins. Ella was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Nathan Thatcher.

Ella attended St. Anthony School in Kenton through 8th grade and graduated from Kenton High School in the class of 1956.  She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1960 with a B.S. Degree in Education. She taught school in Kenton and Delphos and then took time off to raise her family. Upon returning to the workforce, Ella substituted throughout the Hardin County Schools. She then went on to work for the Ohio Dept. of Transportation in the Lima District One garage. She retired after 15 years of service.

What Ella enjoyed most in life was being a child of God and a loving mother. She also loved to visit nursing homes where she made many new friends throughout the years.

She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, dancing and attending the various activities of her children and grandchildren as long as she was able. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ella Kay Friedel will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kenton with Father Ed Shikina officiating where a Rosary Service will begin at 10:30am prior to the service. Internment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kenton, Ohio.  Friends will be received at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 9:00 – 10:00am prior to the service. Ella was a lifelong member of the catholic church, and in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ella’s memory to the Immaculate Conception Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
