Phyllis died as a result of an accidental fire on June 12, 2022, at the home where she and her husband lived. She was born on September 14, 1932, to the late Asa Earl and Vera (Newell) Hougendobler. On June 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert D. Reid. He passed on June 14, 2022.
“Aunt P ” was dearly loved by her 13 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Nieces; Leah Yauger, Barbara Martin, Betty Jo McElroy, Ruth Ann Price, Janet Bryant, Karen Hensel, Donna Miller, Pam Newland and nephew, John Hougendobler.
Phyllis was preceded in death by sisters; Reva Yauger and Louise James, and brothers; Robert, Raymond, Donald Hougendobler, niece; Linda Hougendobler, nephews; Edwin Yauger, Robert Hougendobler Jr. and Raymond Hougendoubler Jr.
Phyllis attended Marseilles School and graduated in the class of 1950.
During their years of marriage, Phyllis became a hard working farm wife, spending many hours helping with the farm work and gardening, in addition to maintaining their home.
Being an active member of the Marseilles United Methodist Church kept her busy over the years.
She served as Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Church Board, Mary Circle and various committees in the church. She particularly enjoyed singing in the church choir and a special quartet.
Phyllis was a member of Maple Grange where she played on a championship girls basketball team and was also named Hardin County Grange Queen. Her other activities include serving on the Goshen Township Farm Bureau Council and the Hardin Memorial Hospital Guild. She served on the election board in Goshen Township for several years. To fill her leisure time, Phyllis enjoyed bowling with various teams (in her younger years), working on word search puzzles, and always setting aside time for her daily devotions and Bible study.
Because of her friendly, welcoming personality, Phyllis was fun to be around and loved to have company that would sit and chat for awhile and was an avid Ohio State fan. She will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Marseilles United Methodist Church at 20273 Walnut St., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351-9542 or to a charity of your choice.
