Of Kenton

Alice (Parker) Downey, 86 of Kenton, went to her heavenly home September 7, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones.  Alice was born in Kenton to the late Lester & Millie (Boyd) Parker on July 10, 1936. She was a 1954 graduate of Kenton High School.  She and her husband, M. Louis Downey, recently celebrated their 68th anniversary having married on August 29, 1954. 

Alice is survived by her husband; Lou, their children, Boyd (Terri) Downey of Kenton & Cindy LaBoiteaux of Highland Heights, KY, sister-in-law Patricia Cummins Parker of Westerville, OH, grandchildren; Brooke (Brett) Purcell of Kenton, Jesse (Bethany) Downey of Galena, OH, Parker (Kari) LaBoiteaux of Alexandria, KY, and Curtis LaBoiteaux of Taylor Mill, KY, great-grandchildren; Gabriel & Lianna Purcell, Emma & Olivia Downey, and Hudson LaBoiteaux. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Lester & Millie (Boyd) Parker, brother Michael Parker, sister Jan (Parker) Farkasdi and brother-in-law Jozsef Farkasdi.  

Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, making her family the priority in every way. She was a life-long member of Trinity United Presbyterian church and took on multiple leadership roles over the years. She was a legal secretary early in her career and continued in the tax and bookkeeping business for 43 years, built and ran an independent income tax business for over 25 years, served the City of Kenton as Assistant and City Treasurer and furthered the cause of Habitat for Humanity for over 15 years as a board member and actively involved in the building of 10 homes in Hardin County. She had a love of antique collecting and interior decorating. Alice will be deeply missed by her family and friends.  

A celebration of life service will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Kenton on Monday, Sept. 12 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.  

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Trinity United Presbyterian Church  (301 W Columbus St, Kenton, OH 43326 419-673-2173) or Hospice Care (Universal Home Health & Hospice, 921 Rush Ave, Bellefontaine, OH 43311 – www.uhcinc.org).
