Clair David Rayl 88
of Kenton
Clair David Rayl passed away at his residence on May 17, 2023 after a long health battle. The family would like to thank Universal Hospice for their loving care and support.
Clair was born in Ada to the late Jess Rayl and Irma (Getz) Rayl-Harp on July 1, 1934. Clair graduated from Kenton High School in 1953. He joined the Air Force Academy and was among first class at the new academy. Upon his discharge he returned to Kenton and worked at Philips and Davis. He noticed the neighbor girl; Mary Manhart had grown up. They got married on May 31, 1958 at the First Methodist Church by Reverend Shoemaker. This union produced three children; a son, David (Shawne) Rayl and 2 daughters; Melody (Dana) Rayl and Letitia Rayl and 1 granddaughter; Charsey Johnson. Clair has 2 sisters; Ruby Sorgen, Mona Gossard, 3 half-brothers; Russel (Henrietta) Harp, Joseph Harp, Charles Harp and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dalton Rayl Johnson, and 3 half-sisters: Sheila, Elisabeth, Beverly.
Clair worked as a machinist and engineer at Philips and Davis in Swift Ohio and Kipco in Columbus. He later retired from Dana.
There will be no services for Clair. He donated his body to Cincinnati Medical School.
Memorial donations in Clair’s honor may be made to First Christian Church of Kenton or Universal Hospice in Bellefontaine.
