Columbus – On May 21, Trooper Matthew A. Dyer was promoted to the rank of sergeant by Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol superintendent. Sergeant Dyer recently transferred from his previous assignment at the Marysville Post to serve as an assistant post commander at the Wapakoneta Post.
Sergeant Dyer began his Patrol career in June 2002 as a dispatcher assigned to the Delaware and Marion posts. He began training as a member of the 141st Academy Class in September 2003. He earned his commission in March of the following year and was assigned to the Findlay Post. In 2008, he was selected as Post Trooper of the Year.
He earned the Criminal Patrol Certificate twice. He also earned the Criminal Patrol Award three times and the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement twice. Throughout his career, he has also served at the Lima and Marion posts.
Sergeant Dyer served in the United States Marines from 1998 to 2002. He earned an Associate of Arts degree in criminology in 1996 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology in 1998 from The Ohio State University.
