Merrel Lee “Butch” Travis, 81 of Kenton, passed away at 5:13pm on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at his residence. He was born on December 9, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Ora and Emma (Jordan) Travis. On December 2, 1965, he married Ethel Castle and she survives in Kenton.
Butch is also survived by his three children: Michael (Teresa) Travis, Michelle (Russ) McMillion, and Marsha (Brent Burk) Travis; six grandchildren: Timothy (Stephanie) McMillion, Travis (Sierra Marker) McMillion, Tessa McMillion, Kellie Gould, Cody (Sarah) Taylor and Kaylon (Tony) Yuretich; seven great-grandchildren: Kimber, Adalyn, Gunner, Allisa, Izzy, Weston, and Nicolas; sister, Marie Byerly and twin sister, Mildred Derouaux; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Travis, Delbert Travis, Barbara Travis and Martha Osbourn.
Butch proudly served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He retired from Rockwell as a welder after working for the company for thirty years. He was a lifetime member of Amvets Post 1994. Above all, the most important thing in Butch’s life was his family. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME and one hour (10-11am) prior to the funeral service on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00am at the funeral home with military rites by the Amvets Post 1994 Honor Guard.
