Funeral services for George Long will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Rev. Randall Forester officiating. Burial will follow at Otterbein Cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the funeral home.The family has asked that everyone dress casually for all services.

George passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Hardin Hills Health Center in Kenton. He was born on February 23, 1926 in Kenton to the late Clarence and Florence (Oates) Long. On February 8, 1948 he married Anita Combs and she preceded him in death in June of 2008.

Surviving are his children; Jerry (Helen) Long, Connie (Dave) Sheets, Jim (Fonda) Long, Judy Kendrick, a sister-in-law; Kathy Long, and his numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son; Rick (Judy) Long, a son-in-law; Alan Kendrick, a grandson; Michael Kendrick, siblings; Paul (Dortha) Long, Alice (Howard) Cahill, Betty (Ross) Draper, Lillian (Elmer) Stinson, Mildred (Norman) Wilkerson, and Carl Long.

George graduated from Kenton High School. He was a proud US Navy Veteran serving during WWII. George retired from Goodrich, Swan Rubber and also worked as an auto mechanic.

George was extremely involved in the Kenton community, being a life member of the Kenton Moose, a life member of the Hardin County Coon Hunters Club, a life member of the Kenton Eagles, a life member of the Mt. Victory VFW Post, a member of the Potters Camp Club, NCHA, FMCA, the Hardin County Collectors. He rode motorcycles for many years and was a member of the Kenton Lightning Riders Motorcycle Club. He also was a part of the Friday with Friends Club with the St. John’s Evangelical Church.

George loved to work with his hands, whether it was wrenching or building mechanical toys. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around and have fun. He will be remembered as a great family man, father and friend who would help or teach anyone that he could.  

Memorial donations in George’s honor may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Church in Kenton or the donor’s choice.
