Obituary for Ellen L. “Sis” Samples
Ellen L. “Sis” Samples, age 86, of Alger formerly of Charleston, WV, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at her residence.
She was born on September 12, 1937, in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Basil and Evelyn “Eva” (Pickering) Shaffer. On June 1, 1962 Ellen married James Samples who preceded her in death on January 1, 1968.
Ellen worked in electronics for most of her life. She was an avid Bingo player.
Ellen is survived by her two children: Karen (Walter) Miller of Alger and James “Tim” Samples of Moundsville, WV; five grandchildren: Jessica Wise, Amanda Wickline, Travis Wickline, David Shaffer, Jr. and Christopher Shaffer; four great grandchildren: Cayden, Tristen, Elaina and Kingston; five step grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Kessler of Avon Park, FL.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Shaffer; daughter, Debra Clay; two brothers and a sister: Mildred Jett, Sonny Pickering and Buck Shaffer.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Floral Hills Garden of Memories Sissonville, WV.
