
The Ohio Division of Wildlife is reminding Ohioans as summer approaches about the critical importance of boating safety and wearing a life jacket.
According to statistics from the U.S. Coast guard, drowning accounted for three out of every four recreational boating fatalities, with 87 percent of the victims not wearing life jackets.
In Ohio specifically, all 10 boating fatalities in 2023 were due to drowning and none of the victims were wearing life jackets.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the National Safe Boating Council recommend the following tips for boaters:
