Fatal Collision in Marion Claims Pedestrian’s Life, Injures Others Including Child

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Marion late Monday morning.

According to a release from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 72-year-old Linda Dowalter, of Belleville, was walking on the sidewalk when a car being operated by 85 year old Sandra Brown, of Marion, pulled onto Center Street from a private drive and struck her.

Dowalter and Brown’s car were then struck by an eastbound truck being operated by 53-year-old James McGinnis, of Marion.

Dowalter was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2-year-old and a 7-year-old were with Dowalter at the time of the crash. The 2-year-old sustained minor injuries and the 7-year-old was not injured.

Brown and a passenger in her vehicle were transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

McGinnis was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
