The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections recently issued a scam warning to the public.
The department stated that they have received reports of scammers targeting loved ones of incarcerated/supervised individuals.
The scammers then identify themselves as ODRC staff members and request money associated with their loved one’s release.
They stated this is not a legitimate part of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections program and said they will never solicit funds over the phone.
If you receive a call of this nature, do not send money.
Instead, the department recommends residents report the scam to their local law enforcement.
