Kenton Lions Club Held Regular Meeting on Wednesday: Many Items Discussed

The Kenton Lions club held its regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 18th, 2024 at the Kenton Elks.

Marha Nau, Director of the United Way of Hardin County, shared their mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.

This is accomplished to advance the common good with focus on Health, Education and Financial Security. Mrs. Nau talked about the programs offered and how they are able to meet the needs of the communities they serve with fundraising activities, grants and
donations.

She mentioned two fundraisers coming up, the United Way Football Drop at the Kenton Home football game on Friday, Sept. 20th and the Bourbon Disco Ball at The Varsity Venue on Oct. 19th.

Mrs. Nau encouraged members to get involved with volunteering with their Lunch Bunch groups buy eating lunch with a 3rd grade student at one of the county schools or by joining “Club 52” with a $52 donation, (just one dollar a week), to get exclusive, members-only offers and discounts from local Hardin County businesses and events.

Lion President Jason shared that the Kenton Lions will be featured in the Chamber of Business Alliance newsletter in October and asked members to share pictures taken from recent projects.

Lion President Jason shared that the GaGa Tournament/Night at the Park is set for Oct. 19th. Time and details to be discussed at a future meeting.

Lion Bill informed members that roadside clean-up will be Sunday, Sept. 22nd at 2:00 pm and asked members to meet at the Bowling Alley.

Lion Steve Walter asked members at the August meeting to consider donating to the Epworth Church Christmas Tree give-away in Dec. He said the price for trees this year cost $35 each with a variety of sizes available. After discussion, Lion Joe Burgbacher made a motion for the club to donate $350 for ten trees. After a 2nd by Lion Gary Whitmer, Lions were asked to vote. Motion Passed.

Lions brought in non perishable food items for the Angels for the Elderly Auction on Oct. 5th. Lion Bill made a motion to donate $200 for the Angels for the Elderly. After some discussion, Lion Kirk Cameron noted that our club donated $500 last year in December and we can donate additional money to them in December.

A 2nd by Lion Steve, members were asked to vote. Motion Passed. Lion Judd provided members information for the Annual Christmas Parade, set for November 26th. As of now Lion Judd reported there are 4 High School Bands who have said they
are willing to participate this year. Where to place volunteers and the need for more lighting at the Kenton Middle School areas was discussed. Lion Aaron Osborn brought up the idea of having high visibility hats and vests available for club members to wear at functions like the Christmas parade. He will share more information at a later meeting.
