Kenton Police Officer Luke Risner and his canine partner Kato attended and completed the National Association Of Professional K-9 Handler’s course in Alpena, Michigan last week.

Risner attended the training with the Northwest Ohio K9 group, which is comprised of handlers from several agencies in Ohio.

Throughout the week officers conducted high quality training in narcotics, criminal apprehension, tracking, article searches, vehicle extraction, building searches, area searches, and obedience.

Officer Risner has been partners with Kato, a two-year-old German Shepherd from Italy, for one year and has had over sixty deployments.

Risner and Kato have been responsible for numerous arrests and seizures of narcotics such as methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine.

The department congratulated the partners on a job well done.
