The Ohio State Highway Patrol is remembering a trooper who was killed while on duty on this date in 1970.
Lieutenant James A. Kirkendall was the Van Wert Post commander at the time of his death.
He was killed in a traffic crash involving two trucks on U.S. 33 just west of St. Johns in Auglaize County.
His hometown was Springfield, and he was a graduate of the 28th Academy Class on September 6, 1949.
