Funeral services for Cathy Susan (Smith) Newland will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Epworth Community Church of Kenton with Pastor Steve Walter officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Kenton. Friends and family may visit 2 hours prior to services at the church. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Cathy passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine. She was born on February 28, 1955, in Kenton to the late Noel and Virginia (Johnson) Smith. On May 8, 1982, she married Rick Newland and he survives in Kenton.
Also surviving are 2 sons, James (Rachel) Spangler of Lima, Matthew (Rebecca) Newland of Bettsville, a sister, Peggy (Dan) Gibbs of Bellefontaine, 2 brothers, Randy (Jean Ann) Smith of Clarkston, WA, Mike (Kay) Smith of Kenton, 3 grandchildren, Persephone Serenity Virginia Spangler, Hailey Newland, Tyson Newland, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Larry Smith, Tim Smith and Steve Smith.
Cathy was a 1973 graduate of Kenton High School. She worked various jobs including, a nurse’s aid for the Corinthian and as a custodian for the Hardin County Courthouse, and Ohio Hi-Point JVS. She also helped deliver meals for Meals on Wheels through the Hardin County Council on Aging. She was a member of the Epworth Community Church of Kenton.
Cathy loved to copy recipes and bake. She was known for making broccoli casserole and the best biscuits and gravy. She also enjoyed being outside, going for walks at Lawrence Woods and planting tulips in her garden. Most of all, Cathy loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Cathy’s name may be made to the funeral home in care of the family or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
