Recently, two accelerated English classes of Kenton High School freshmen held a mock trial at the Hardin County Courthouse.
The mock trial was their final project over Lord of the Flies.
A book character was charged with 2nd degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, and attempted murder.
Students formed a prosecution team and defense team, then signed up for roles such as opening statement, direct examiner, cross examiner, closing statement and various witnesses.
While one class conducted the trial, the other class served as the jury, who then deliberated the charges.
Magistrate Terry Glover served as the judge in both cases.
Students learned about the roles of prosecutors from Assistant Prosecutor Morgan Fish; defense attorneys from Magistrate Glover; and witnesses from retired social worker, Elizabeth Aspinwall.
Additionally, Judge Steve Christopher spoke about general prosecutor tips.
Teacher Tina Hull stated that she was extremely proud of the students for their work.
