Dr. Jeff Gundy, poet in residence and emeritus professor of English at Bluffton University, will present the Colloquium, “Phantom Power(s) and How to Find Them” at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.

Gundy’s lifelong curiosity and years-long fascination with “Phantom Power” led him to explore animal behavior and cultures, quantum mechanics, theopoetics, political poetry in pastoral Somalia, deep history and more over the last two years.

A grant from an anonymous donor through the Seattle Foundation funded both work on the manuscript and travel to South Africa, Morocco, Greece and British Columbia. Gundy has now woven those materials, his travels and his own near-obsession with the powers that operate above, below, around, or behind our everyday lives and perceptions into a full manuscript on this elusive, essential subject.

This presentation will feature both an overview of the project and selections from it, including travel writing, academic essays, poems, photographs and at least one song.

This event is free and open to the public.
