Saturday evening at the Kenton Elks 157 Lodge Ballroom the Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award was presented by PER Todd Daquino to Michael “Mike” Styer.

The Distinguished Citizenship Award is designed to recognize individuals who has contributed in a special way to improving the local community, has contributed voluntary service, and is recognized as being an all-around good citizen.

Mike’s Rehab Bikes:

Mike started Mike’s Rehab Bikes in honor of his father Richard Styer who passed away in 2008 from Cancer. Mike’s Rehab Bikes donates proceeds to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Event and has donated bicycles to members of our local community who are in need. According to his Facebook Page Mike has raised over $10,000 and has sold 1,000 or more bikes over the years.

Mike is a teacher for the Ada School district, is a passionate advocate of the Arts, and total well being of our community.

Every year the Elks has a Americanism Essay contest where school children in grades 5 to 8 create essays about “What Makes Them Proud of America” and his students have participated every year.

You can also hear Mike broadcasting sports on 95.3 WKTN regularly.

As Elks we have a motto; Elks Care, Elks Share. Mike and his work in the community is a example we all should strive to match.

Congratulations to Mike Styer the 2018-2019 Elks Citizen of the Year.
