Falcons Advance After Beating L-B in Boys Basketball Tournament Game

The Flying Falcons of Riverdale High School downed Co-BVC Champ Liberty Benton in Boys Sectional Tourney Action Wednesday night at the Falcon nest by the score of 61-56.

It was the second victory of the season over the Eagles, as the Falcons beat them on their home floor on January 15, 2021, by the score of 53-50.

The six point victory was done in much the same fashion as the Falcons came from behind after three quarters.

The Falcons outscore the Eagles 22-16 in the 4th quarter to notch their tourney victory and an opportunity to win the Sectional Championship on Friday at The Palace as they travel to take on the Raiders of Wayne Trace. The Falcons had three players in double figures: Jackson Clark had 12, and Drew Frey as well as Isaac Holland had team high 17 points a piece. Three players chipped in with 5 points a piece: Thomas Miller, Andrew Kuenzli, and Jayden Taylor.

The Eagles also had three players in double figures: Ben Spiess had a game high 18, 1st Team All BVC player Josh Reindel had 11 and Austin Hanni-Wells chipped in with 10.

The Falcons are playing for their second sectional championship in two years and are also BVC Champs for the second year in a row.

The winner of Friday nights game will move on down the road to Columbus as they would return to action at Lima Senior for the Districts on Thursday, March 4, at 7:30 to play the winner of Bath and Lima Central Catholic.

In other Hardin County Action last night, Hardin Northern won their opener as they downed Gibsonburg 67-51. They improve to 14-8 on the season and were led in scoring by Zeb Wilson with 19 points, Owen Wehterill with 17 points and Nevan Robson with 14. They will travel to number 2 seed Tiffin Calvert on Friday night to play for a sectional championship.

Ridgemont traveled to Parkway to take on the Panthers last night and came away with a double overtime thriller 58-54.

They will travel to Number 2 seed Minster, on Friday night, for a sectional championship.
