Forest Police Department Takes a Report About a Scam

The Forest Police Department took a report of a phone scam.

The resident was contacted about a refund due from a company. 

The resident provided bank account numbers and was told to check the banking account because the money was being refunded immediately. 

The potential victim found that they had been over compensated, and the caller informed the resident to go to the bank and he would be in contact about how to return the overpayment. 

It was discovered that money was only transferred from one account to another, and no actual refund was made.

Realizing that a scam was taking place, the resident and the bank took steps to secure the accounts and there was no loss of money.

The Forest Police Department urged residents to use EXTREME CAUTION when dealing with callers and telemarketers.
