A 5K Run/Walk will be held in Marion on Saturday, November 9th, to benefit military veterans who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The Hope 4 Heroes 5K Run/Walk is sponsored by Ashley HomeStore of Marion.

It benefits Awareness22, a nonprofit organization operated by combat veteran volunteers, that seeks to save the lives of those who risk their lives for ours.

The group’s name arises from the fact that an average of 22 veterans who are battling PTSD take their lives each day.

The event, which also includes a One Mile Walk option, starts at 8 a.m. at the Tri-Rivers Career Center, 2222 Marion-Mt. Gilead Rd., and ends at the Ashley HomeStore, 2074 Marion-Mt. Gilead Rd.

The fee for the Run/Walk is a $30 donation which benefits Awareness22. Participants will receive chip-timing, goody-bag, finisher’s dog tag and, while supplies last, a cool race t-shirt.

Sign up for the event today at runsignup.com/Race/OH/Marion/HopeforHeroes5K. You also can register the day of the Run/Walk starting at 7 a.m.

Immediately following the Run/Walk, Ashley HomeStore of Marion will host its 10th annual Veterans Breakfast Celebration. All veterans, active military, and their guests are invited to attend. The event will begin with a ceremony honoring local veterans and active military. The morning will conclude by giving away more than $10,000 in free furniture and prizes to Veterans in attendance.

Ashley HomeStore of Marion also hosts a Wall of Honor in the store. Local veterans and active duty military who visit can get their picture placed on the wall. They also receive a free challenge coin and hearty thanks from all the staff at Ashley HomeStore of Marion.
