Kenton High School Coed Varsity Wrestling falls to Defiance High School 45-18

The Kenton High School wrestling team took on the Defiance Bulldogs at home Thursday night in a WBL dual meet contest.  Both teams, coming into the matchup, have struggled in conference dual meets so far this season with only one team win and three losses each.  

The Bulldogs, with nearly a full roster, easily defeated the Wildcats 45-18 by accepting three forfeits and winning six of the eight contested matches.

The match started at 150 lbs where Defiance conceded it’s only forfeit to Kenton’s Anthony Hunt.  After that, the Bulldogs went on to capture six straight wins before heading into the lighter weight classes with a 30-6 team score.

Freshman, Harrison Brien, put the Wildcats back on the scoreboard at 120 lbs with a pin victory over Kendall Rittenhouse.  Brien was down by a point in the tightly contested match through the first two periods, but was able to outlast Rittenhouse in the third period scoring two more takedowns and getting the fall with forty-five seconds remaining in the match.  

Karson Davis was then able to follow that up with a quick takedown and pin Carvelle Tracy at 126 lbs (:51).  The Wildcats were then down only 30-18, but surrendered another forfeit at 138 and suffered two tough losses by Pettit at 132 and Modd at 144 leaving the final score of the match 45-19 in Defiance’s favor.

The Wildcats are now (1-4) on the season and the Bulldogs improve to (2-3). St. Mary’s is leading the conference (5-0) with Celina and Wapak tied for second at (4-1).

Kenton will be competing at the Triad Invitational this weekend and then travelling to Wapakoneta next Thursday for it’s next WBL dual meet.  

The Wildcats have two remaining dual meets at home; January 26th to face WBL leader St. Mary’s and then against Lima Shawnee on Alumni night on February 7th.
