The Lima Police Department is currently investigating criminal activity, including recent shootings that occurred over the past couple of weeks, and they are asking for the public’s help on something very important concerning social media.
Officials at LPD said they know that many of the citizens in Lima have good intentions and want to help with the investigations; however, misinformation and disinformation can quickly spread through the power of social media.
This exposes community members to false information, and when they unknowingly share it, they contribute to the spread.
Instead of posting or sharing on social media, they are asking that you contact the department and give the information to investigators.
This is especially important if you do not have first-hand knowledge of a crime or information.
Consider the source from where the information originated and remember, not everything you see and hear on social media is accurate.
Some information can be very harmful and even take precious time away from the investigation.
