Marion, Ohio – July 15, 2019 – The Palace Academy of the Arts, located at the historic Marion Palace Theatre, 276 West Center Street in downtown Marion, is a performing arts program of the Marion Palace Theatre.

Returning to the curriculum this summer is the popular “Set the Stage” theatre camp, which runs July 22-July 26 and July 29-August 2. Camp meets daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration deadline is one week before the first class.

Entering its 21st year, “Set the Stage” has been a part of the Marion Palace Theatre’s programming and offers students ages 6 through 14 an all-day, week-long theatre experience. Led by Palace Productions Directors Emily Yaksic (B.A. Theatre Education; Drama teacher, Columbus City Schools) and Kristi Wink (B.F.A. Acting; Choreographer, Marion County & City Schools), this 7 hour-a-day, 5 day camp is packed from start to finish with activities geared at linking the thrill of performance with the instruction needed to grow your camper’s passion and skills. Taught in a fun and creative way, “Set the Stage” activities include learning to create scenes, performing improv skits, and writing dialogue. Lessons to be learned include taking risks, thinking outside the box, creating the “who, what, and where” of a skit or sketch to guarantee the audience laughs, and more. Additional camp time will be spent on improving vocal quality and physicality, and enhancing character development. Camp concludes with a song and dance number that will challenge campers to focus on stage presence and proper dance technique, a valuable experience in preparation for school and Palace stage shows. Mid-day snacks will be served daily; campers are asked to bring a brown bag lunch.

Friday afternoon includes pizza for the campers to refuel before the final performance presented for family and friends. Camp fees are $165 for all ages and include a t-shirt, daily snacks, and Friday pizza. Discounts are offered to siblings enrolled in the same camp and to current P.C.A.A. members at the Musical Director level and above.
