Fifteen members and one guest met at the Carey School on September 12 at 10 a.m.

Kappa Co-President Patti Palmer welcomed all, and the program was introduced by Carey Principal Dr. Tammy Elchert.

Sarah Harris presented STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and explained what is involved at different grade levels; aided by pictures on a screen. Harris is an educator hired for enrichment involving thinking skills. These skills can lead to independent action skills by students. Elchert invited all to tour her classroom and watch a 3D printer at work which can be used in many of the projects. Each person received a red rose provided by the printer.

Lunch followed with box lunches from Moreno’s Casual Dining in Carey. Laurie Vent was also thanked for chocolate desserts that she had made. Palmer thanked the committee of Tammy Elchert, Bonnie Eyestone, Laurie Vent, and Janine McMillan.

Co-Pres. Palmer held a short meeting. Treasurer Elaine Hoover had her report filed for audit. All members have paid their dues. Donations were accepted for the African project. A budget will be formed for the next meeting. Secretary Teresa Harris had her report accepted and filed. Discussions of meetings by Zoom and expectations at the state level were stated. Harris was also thanked for making various designs of face masks for COVID and giving them to the members. All were asked to send cards to Donna Myers and Ruth Ann Poling. Summer birthdays were announced. The new program books were distributed and corrections noted. Thank you notes and gifts were given to the former officers and were greatly appreciated.

Co-Pres. Palmer noted that Kappa Chapter will be gathering items or tools for Hanna’s House Toolbox. Monetary donations were also accepted. Hanna’s House provides a neutral and safe home-like setting to nurture the bonds between parents and children as well as aiding those in foster care. These tools will be brought to the next meeting to be held at the Beech Grove School beside the Hardin County Fairgrounds on October 10 at 10 a.m. The committee will be Lori Paul, Jodine McKinley, and Norma Frederick.

More details will come later about a box lunch and speaker Carol McKinley.

The meeting was adjourned and all were wished safe travels home.
