City of Findlay Provides Recommendations Related to Avian Influenza Protocols

February 26, 2026-Findlay, Ohio — Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)(Bird Flu) has been confirmed in deceased birds in the City of Findlay.

Based on guidance from the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), there is no need for dead birds to be removed, and there is no concern for water contamination.

There is also no need for further action by the public. As a precaution:

• Pets should be kept away from any bird carcasses or visibly sick birds.
• The species most commonly affected during this outbreak include Canada geese, raptors, and crows.
• Songbirds are not currently considered a concern, and bird feeders do not need to be removed.

If a bird carcass must be removed due to location or safety concerns, individuals should:

• Wear disposable gloves and an N95 mask
• Avoid direct contact
• Double-bag the carcass and dispose of it in a trash receptacle
• Wash hands thoroughly after contact

The City of Findlay will continue to coordinate closely with state partners and provide updates if conditions change.
