FINDLAY, OHIO – More than 600 scoops of ice cream were served during last year’s Cops & Cones events, and this summer the Fort Findlay FOP Lodge #20 Foundation is bringing the popular community program back for another season of smiles, conversations, and positive interactions between youth and law enforcement.

Cops & Cones will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, Wednesday, July 15, and Wednesday, August 19 at Dietsch Brother’s Ice Cream on West Main Cross Street in Findlay.

Thanks to the generosity of the Chris & Hillary Coughlin Family Giving Fund and the continued partnership of Dietsch’s Ice Cream, community members will once again enjoy a free scoop of ice cream while spending time with officers from local law enforcement agencies.

While children certainly enjoy the free ice cream, the true purpose of the program is creating opportunities for meaningful interactions between officers and the families they serve.

“Most of the time, officers meet people during emergencies, difficult situations, or some of the most stressful moments of their lives,” said Teresa White, Director of the Fort Findlay FOP Lodge #20 Foundation. “Cops & Cones gives officers an opportunity to serve in a different capacity. Instead of responding to a problem, they’re building relationships, answering questions, sharing laughs, and showing kids that the people behind the badges are approachable, caring members of our community.”

The relaxed setting allows children to interact with law enforcement in a positive environment while helping officers strengthen connections with the community they serve.

“The ice cream gets people there, but the conversations are what matter most,” White said. “Every smile, high-five, sticker, and conversation helps build trust. Those moments may seem small, but they create the foundation for stronger relationships between law enforcement and our community.”

Since its inception, Cops & Cones has become one of the Foundation’s most popular summer programs, bringing together officers, families, and community members for an evening focused on connection, conversation, and fun.

The Fort Findlay FOP Lodge #20 Foundation works to build positive interactions between youth and law enforcement while supporting active and retired officers, the families of fallen officers, and programs that strengthen communities throughout Hancock County.
