Fire destroyed a church in Mercer County on Thursday.
Media reports show that the Chickasaw Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein at around 2:30 Thursday afternoon after workers on the roof saw smoke while installing shingles.
By the time firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was visible and multiple fire departments from around the area were dispatched to the scene.
Despite their best efforts, the church could not be saved.
There were no injuries as a result of the blaze.
On its Facebook page, the Chickasaw Volunteer Fire Department thanked all of the departments that provided assistance.
They also thanked everyone who supplied drinking water and food for all the fire fighters.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
