The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has closed State Route 31 south of State Route 292 through Mt. Victory and State Route 273 East from 292 into Mt. Victory due to a hazardous materials spill.

Drivers are advised to detour via OH 292 South to OH 347 East and to avoid the area while emergency crews respond.

A farm chemical spill has Main Street, which is State Route 31, in Mt. Victory closed at this time.

According to Chief Deputy Scott Holbrook from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, a piece of farming equipment malfuctioned spilling some of the contents on the road.

The Chief Deputy said the chemical is not believed to be harmful to humans but could be a hazard to fish life and efforts to prevent it from reaching waterways are being taken.

The road is expected to reopen at around 2:30 this (Friday May 2 afternoon).

The South East Hardin North West Union Joint Fire District District is charge of the scene, and personnel from the fire department are not available for comment.
