Kayaking Tragedy in Hancock County Claims Life of Texas Man
A 25-year-old man from Arlington, Texas, died Wednesday after going underwater while kayaking in a Hancock County pond.
The incident happened behind a residence on Township Road 114 in Allen Township. Authorities say Lonnie Wyse Jr. reportedly fell from a kayak around 3:30 p.m. and could not be located.
The Allen Township Fire Department responded along with deputies from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. A dive team was also brought in to assist with the search.
Wyse was found and pronounced dead at approximately 5:55 p.m.
The Hancock County EMA, Hanco EMS, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
