At Monday evening’s Kenton City Council meeting, members passed an ordinance that was on third reading imposing a temporary moratorium on the development of data centers in the city.
Fourth Ward Councilman Chad Miller expressed frustration that the ordinance made it to third readings, and not one person showed up in favor or against it, despite it being a hot topic in today’s society.
He said as chair of legislation, it is their job now to find what suits the city in their needs, and what the community wants, and he encourages the public to attend legislative committee meetings, “To know what’s being discussed, and to offer your input as a community to what you feel council and the city’s direction it should take once this moratorium is in place, which it is, and how we should proceed, so I would encourage the public to attend committee meetings and be aware of what’s being discussed and offer their input.”
Mayor Lynn Webb stated that she wanted to make it clear that the city has not had any communication of any kind from any data center.
She said to be as transparent as possible, there has been “100 percent zero communication with anybody on a data center.”
