The Kenton Fire Department offered some Thanksgiving Day Safety Tips designed to help you stay safe, cook smart and enjoy the holiday.

In the kitchen, you should never leave cooking food unattended, and turn pot handles inward and out of reach of children and pets.

If you are deep-frying a turkey, always fry outside on a level ground far away from buildings.

The turkey must be thawed and dry before lowering into the oil and never overfill the fryer.

You should keep an extinguisher nearby and never use water on a grease fire.

When it comes to candles and decorations, keep lit candles out of reach from children and pets.
