ODOT Seeking Public Comments on Several Area Bridge and Culvert Projects

The Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking public comments regarding several proposed projects.

The projects include bridge and culvert maintenance on State Route 81 southeast of Dunkirk, State Route 235 south of Alger, State Route 67 east of Kenton and State Route 292 south of Kenton.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the late summer of 2027.

A bridge maintenance project is also proposed for State Route 31 south of Kenton beginning in the summer of 2028.

Projects are also planned for bridges and culverts throughout Hancock and Wyandot Counties as well.

LIMA, Ohio (Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1, in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Executive Order 11988, is seeking public comments regarding the following proposed projects: 

PUTNAM COUNTY

State Route 190 slope stabilization and culvert replacement (PID: 123929)

ODOT is proposing to complete slope stabilization on State Route 190 between U.S. 224 and Road Q (6.83 MM) east of the village of Ottoville in Putnam County. Work will include the construction of a plug pile wall and replacing the culvert which drains into the Auglaize River under State Route 190.

Construction activities will result in temporary roadway closures. Vehicular traffic will be detoured. Access to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2028.

Work at this structure will occur in a regulated floodplain. Impacts to this floodplain are anticipated to be minor and the carrying capacity of the Auglaize River will be maintained. VAN WERT COUNTY

U.S. 127 bridge replacement (PID: 121271)

ODOT is proposing to replace the bridge on U.S. 127 over Long Prairie Creek between State Route 709 and Wren Landeck Road northeast of the village of Ohio City in Van Wert County.

Construction activities will result in temporary roadway closures. Vehicular traffic will be detoured temporarily. Access for local traffic to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2030.

State Route 49 roadway reconstruction (PID: 122474)

ODOT is proposing to reduce roadway flooding by raising the pavement elevation along State Route 49, between the Willshire Quarry and Piqua Road, just north of Willshire.

Construction activities will result in temporary roadway closures on State Route 49. Vehicular traffic will be detoured temporarily. Access for local traffic to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2028

A portion of this work on State Route 49 will impact the Willshire Quarry, which is designated as a public recreational property that is owned by the village of Willshire. As a designated public recreational property, it is afforded protection under federal law. The use of federal funds requires measures to be developed to minimize harm and advance public notice be given of impacts to this recreational property.

Work along this route will occur in the regulated floodplain of the St. Marys River. Impacts to this floodplain are anticipated to be minor and result in no rise in localized flood levels. WYANDOT COUNTY

State Route 231 bridge preservation (PID: 105740)

ODOT is proposing to perform bridge maintenance on State Route 231 over Indian Run, between County Road 330/Lincoln Highway and Township Highway 47, in Wyandot County. Work will include replacing the superstructure of the bridge with composite prestressed box beams, as well as, converting the bridge abutment into a semi-integral abutment.

Construction activities will result in temporary roadway closures on State Route 231. Vehicular traffic will be detoured temporarily. Access for local traffic to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is scheduled to occur in the summer of 2029.

Bridge and culvert maintenance on various routes, 2027 (PID: 123650)

ODOT is proposing to perform routine maintenance on various bridges and culverts throughout Hancock, Hardin, Wyandot, and Van Wert counties.

• Hancock County
  • State Route 613 over a branch of the Rocky Ford Creek, approximately 3.0 miles west of the village of Van Buren (10.057 MM).
  • State Route 235 over Radar Creek, approximately 2.0 miles north of the village of McComb (23.501 MM).
• Hardin County
  • State Route 81 over Shallow Run, just southeast of the village of Dunkirk (13.723 MM).
  • State Route 235 over the Cottonwood Ditch, just south of the village of Alger (12.347 MM).
  • State Route 67 over the Tymochtee Creek, approximately 2.50 miles east of the city of Kenton (19.275 MM).
  • State Route 292 over Manlove Run, approximately 1.50 miles south of the city of Kenton (7.500 MM).
• Van Wert County
  • State Route 49 over Middle Creek, approximately 1 mile south of the Van Wert County line (21.461).
  • U.S. Route 224 over Hoaglin Creek, approximately 5 miles west of the city of Van Wert (3.971 MM).
  • U.S. 33 over Duck Creek, about 1 mile southeast of the Village of Willshire (1.941 MM).
  • County Road 101 (Stripe Road) over U.S. 30, northeast of the city of Van Wert (0.903 MM).
  • Township Road 127 (Gilliland Road) over U.S. 30, northeast of the city of Van Wert (2.142 MM).
  • County Road 5 (Hoaglin Center Road) over U.S. Route 30, approximately 3 miles east of Van Wert (16.933 MM).
  • Township Road 139 (Gamble Road) 3.748 over U.S. 30, approximately 3.5 miles east of the city of Van Wert.
  • Township Road 151 (Chenowith Road) over U.S. Route 30, approximately 4 miles east of the city of Van Wert (1.240 MM).
• Wyandot County
  • U.S. 23 over Brown Ditch in the village of Carey (24.616 MM).
  • State Route 67 over a branch of Buckeye Creek just south of the Wyandot County line (29.556 MM).

Construction activities will result in temporary roadway closures on all routes. Vehicular traffic will be detoured temporarily. Access for local traffic to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the late summer of 2027.

Work at some of these structures will occur within the boundary of a regulated floodplain. Impacts to these floodplains are anticipated to be minor and result in no rise in localized flood levels.

ODOT is proposing to perform routine maintenance on various bridges and culverts throughout Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, and Wyandot counties.

• Allen County
  • State Route 117 over the Auglaize River, approximately 3.5 miles east of the village of Spencerville (6.985 MM).
• Defiance County
  • U.S. 127 over Lick Creek, just south of the Defiance County Line (12.025 MM).
  • State Route 15 over Black Creek, approximately 2.5 miles southeast of the Village of Ney (6.572 MM).
• Hancock County
  • Two State Route 15 structures over the Blanchard River, approximately 3.0 miles west of the village of Vanlue (22.879 and 23.176 MM)
  • State Route 15 over the Hoy Ditch, approximately 3.5 miles west of the village of Vanlue (22.463).
  • State Route 103 over Eagle Creek, approximately 1 mile west of the village of Arlington (10.427 MM).
• Hardin County
  • State Route 31 over Wolf Creek, approximately 3 miles southeast of the city of Kenton (7.058 MM).
• Paulding County
  • State Route 500 over an intermittent waterway, approximately 1 mile southwest of the village of Payne (3.425 MM).
  • State Route 49 over the South Branch Marie Delarme Creek, approximately 2.5 miles south of the Paulding County Line (16.165 MM).
• Wyandot County
  • U.S. 23 (Vance Street) over Spring Run, in the village of Carey (24.286 MM).

Construction activities will result in temporary roadway closures. Vehicular traffic will be detoured temporarily at the following locations:

• State Route 49, Paulding County
• State Route 117, Allen County

Full road closures or detours are not expected for the rest of these locations, though lane closures will occur. Access for local traffic to all properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2028.

Work at some of these structures will occur within the boundary of a regulated floodplain. Impacts to these floodplains are anticipated to be minor and result in no rise in localized flood levels.
