Ohio House Votes to Remove Larry Householder as a Member

The Ohio House voted 75-21 Wednesday to expel Rep. Larry Householder following his federal indictment last year in a $60 million bribery scheme.

The bipartisan vote marks the first time in 150 years that the House has removed a member.

In casting his vote in favor of removing Householder, Representative Jon Cross released this statement:

“For nearly a year now, House leadership and my colleagues have asked Mr. Householder to resign, and he chose not to. Householder will have his day in court, but the Ohio Constitution gives the Ohio House the ability to remove members for misconduct. Today’s vote is simply a forced resignation.

The serious allegations have no place in the People’s House. I voted to expel Householder in order to uphold the integrity of our institution. The judicial system and court proceedings will determine the fate of citizen Larry Householder.”

Wednesday’s vote approved a resolution stating that Householder was “not suited” for office following his indictment, and abides by a constitutional rule that allows expulsion for “disorderly conduct.
