SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Agents with the Ohio Investigative Unit, along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, executed four search warrants July 2 at four Clark County businesses for selling illegal and unregulated drug products. This operation follows a months-long joint investigation sparked by citizen complaints regarding illegal sales at the locations.

The search warrants were executed at the following Springfield locations:

  • Krazy Daze, 3674 E. National Rd.
  • Krazy Daze, 1062 Upper Valley Pike
  • Tobacco and Vape Shop, 154 S. Tuttle Rd.
  • BP, 2300 S. Limestone St.

As a result of the operation, agents seized approximately 3,520 intact packages and containers of unregulated marijuana, THC products, and kratom. Authorities also seized approximately $3,301 in cash.

Investigators found that none of the businesses were licensed to sell marijuana or THC products. Senate Bill 56 took effect earlier this year, banning the manufacture and sale of intoxicating hemp products. Unregulated hemp products, including candies, cereals, and gummies, are banned and unavailable to purchase legally anywhere in Ohio. Any product containing more than 0.4 mg total THC per container is considered marijuana and is prohibited from being sold outside of a cannabis dispensary licensed by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Cannabis Control.

Three of the businesses were selling illegal kratom products. Synthetic kratom or kratom-related compounds are prohibited under Ohio law. Illegal kratom products such as extracts, enhanced products and semi-synthetic derivatives, are classified as Schedule I opiates.

“When a business chooses to sell illegal, unregulated products, they are putting the community at risk,” said OIU Senior Enforcement Commander Greg Croft. “Every retailer, whether they sell alcohol, tobacco, or cannabis, must follow the law, and those who choose not to will be held accountable.”

The Ohio Investigative Unit and Clark County Sheriff’s Office are working with Clark County Prosecutor’s Office. Charges will be presented to a Clark County grand jury for all suspected individuals involved.
