The Ohio State Highway Patrol is remembering a trooper who died on this date in 1982 after being involved in an earlier accident.

On October 25, 1982, Trooper William R. Bender was directing traffic at a construction site on U.S. 23, north of State Route 53 in Wyandot County, when he was struck by a tractor-trailer.

He died 26 days later of injuries suffered in the crash.
