Patrol’s Captain Springs Promoted to Major in the Office of Criminal Investigations

COLUMBUS – Captain Daniel E. Springs, Piqua District Headquarters, was promoted to the rank of major on November 8 and was recognized yesterday by Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Training Academy. Major Springs transferred from the Piqua District Headquarters and was assigned to the Office of Criminal Investigations to serve as commander.

Major Springs began his Patrol career in March 1989 as administrative staff assigned to the Wapakoneta Post and then transferred to the then Bellefontaine Post. In May 1991, he joined the 121st Academy Class. He earned his commission in November of that same year and was assigned to the former Walbridge Post.

As a trooper, he also served at the Springfield Post. He earned Post Trooper of the Year once. In 1997, he was promoted to sergeant and transferred to the Piqua Post to serve as assistant post commander. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2002 and remained at the Piqua Post to serve as post commander.

He was promoted to staff lieutenant in Special Operations in 2005. As a staff lieutenant, he also served at Capitol Operations, Security and Communications, Field Operations/Licensing and Commercial Standards, the Training Academy and the Piqua District Headquarters.

In 2015, he was promoted to captain and remained at the Piqua District Headquarters to serve as the district commander.

In 2004, Major Springs earned a certificate of completion from the FBI National Academy.
