A Full-Scale Exercise is a “hands-on” test which evaluates the overall emergency management program. It requires the mobilization, use of personnel and equipment, and emergency operations leadership to coordinate the response functions. It will test most, or all the emergency response functions as outlined in the Hardin County Emergency Operations Plan.

Hazardous materials Hazmat response drill focuses on making emergency response/medical services personnel more aware of potential hazardous materials. The drill aims to help them recognize the presence of hazardous materials in medical emergencies and avoid becoming victims. Key topics covered in such drills include:

  • Hidden dangers of hazardous materials incidents
  • Response challenges associated with hazardous chemical release or spill in populated areas
  • Conduct a drill focusing on hazardous material spills to practice containment procedures
  • Evaluate communication strategies during a hazardous material incident
  • Familiarity with resources and agencies involved in hazmat incidents
  • Identifying gaps and shortfalls in current hazmat plans, policies, and procedures.
