Rep. Ty Mathews Highlights the Official Start of Ohio’s Fall Hunting Season on September 1st

COLUMBUS – State Representative Ty Mathews (R-Findlay) is pleased to share that the month of September officially marks the beginning of Ohio’s fall hunting season.

The Ohio 2025 hunting season opening dates are as follows:

Monday, September 1, 2025

  • Squirrel (fox, red, and gray)
  • Dove
  • Rail (Virginia and sora)
  • Snipe
  • Gallinule

Saturday, September 6, 2025

  • Early Canada goose (through Sunday, September 14)
  • Early teal (blue-winged and green winged; through Sunday, September 14)

Saturday, September 27, 2025

  • Deer Archery

Additionally, House Bill 64 – legislation championed by members of the Ohio House Majority Caucus – lowers the age to 65 for Ohioans to qualify for senior discounts on hunting, fishing, and other sportsmen licenses. The bill takes effect on September 30th, just in time for deer hunting season.
