
SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred yesterday, September 15, at approximately 10:19 p.m., on Runkle Road, east of the intersection at Slack Road in Jackson Township, Champaign County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country, operated by Eldon Luttrell, 73, Saint Paris, was traveling east on Runkle Road. The Chrysler traveled off the south side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The Chrysler then continued south into a cornfield.
The Chrysler continued traveling south through the cornfield before transitioning to travel westbound through another field. The Chrysler then traveled into a nearby pond. The Chrysler was removed from the pond by mechanical means.
Luttrell succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Springfield Post.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign County Coroner’s Office, Christiansburg Fire Company, JSP Fire District, and Wooten Automotive & Towing.
