The Upper Sandusky Police Department has taken reports of individuals calling into businesses and claiming to be supervisors or administration within the business.
They demand that the employee take money from the business and go purchase prepaid cards and then attempt to have the employee read the card numbers to them.
One caller claimed to be a federal agent investigating a counterfeit bill.
If someone is asking you to pay by gift card or prepaid card, it is a scam.
Employers are being encouraged to speak to their employees about these incidents, so they don’t fall victim to these scams.
Employees should question people before spending money and call someone they know within the business to verify these types of requests.
They can always call the Upper Sandusky Police Department if they are unsure about the validity of such requests.
