A house in Kenton was heavily damaged by a fire this past Saturday afternoon.

According to information from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at around 1:10pm Saturday afternoon to 127 Autumn Hayes Lane in the city.

Upon arrival, flames were observed on the roof and heavy smoke on the east side and rear of the structure.

Fire had spread from the kitchen to the attic area of the house resulting in extensive damage.

The owner, identified as Joe Denton, stated that he was heating grease on the stove and left for around 2 minutes.

When he came back, the grease was on fire, and he attempted to put it out using a fire blanket, but it was too late.

Denton was treated at the scene for minor burns to his arm.

Mutual assistance was provided by Fire Departments from Forest, Dunkirk, Mt. Victory, McGuffey and Richland Townships.

Firefighters were on the scene for around four hours.
